| St. George Monastery - located in the picturesque Wadi Qelt, between Jerusalem and Jericho. The Monastery is carved out of the rock and clings impressively to the canyon walls. The Monastery was founded in the fifth century but was destroyed during the Persian invation. In the year 1179 it was restored again by the Crusaders. The present monastery was rebuilt around 1900 by the Greek Orthodox Church. |
